Your own personal patchwork of beliefs is not important. Templism is a dogma that enables the formation of a group of people who are cohesive, “on the same page”, and therefore capable of collective action. By multiplying the number of people who adhere to this creed we can change the way that society operates.
There is no other way to change the way that society operates. Any other solution represents the capture of part of society. For example, of a political organization. However, the population is so thoroughly mired in degeneracy and ignorance that any such “capture” will be opposed by the full weight of the remainder of society. The immune system of the present aeon is strong. The only way to alter the present aeon is to seed it with a different dogma so as to weaken that immune system, and multiply the number of antibodies to the ruling dogma, that will eventually be so widespread as to simultaneously capture parts of society, in such a pervasive way as to prevent an effectual reaction, thus seizing effective control, which can then be consolidated.
Templism must be believed dogmatically, “as if infallible”, by people who must initiate themselves as Templists. This facilitates cohesion. A cohesive group can act with a unified purpose.
Piety is not just “believing what the gods tell you”. We want you to accomplish our will. For you to accomplish my will. I don’t care how you feel or what you believe. Your beliefs are not important. Your beliefs accomplish nothing, your feelings nothing. Groups accomplish things. Cohesive groups are not established by coincidental agreement between people. They are established by duty, such as the duty of one who adopts the beliefs of a group so as to be an avatar of that group for the purpose that it serves.
Nevermind then if the Templist trials are “hard”, that doesn’t matter either. You demonstrate that you can let us control your body and limbs to complete them, not out of possession, but because you understand that you are a utility that can be subsumed into a collective entity by duty, and not out of a moral commandment, but because the scale on which you wish to act is inaccessible to individuals, but only to groups.
